The Heart Safe Community was established to improve the cardiac health of area residents by minimizing or reversing the effects of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Since the beginning the Foundation has purchased over 78 Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) to area schools, recreation departments, senior centers and first responders. These units are often placed where there is a large volume of activity or where a large amount of people gather.

The Foundation has also purchased 12 Lead EKG machines for Tift and surrounding counties. These machines are used by Emergency Medical Technicians enroute to the hospital. The EKG's are performed and data is transmitted to a local Cardiologist before the cardiac victim arrives at the hospital. This machine is able to save door to balloon time, and often saves the lives of the cardiac victim. The 12 Leads are used daily, and bring in over 70 victims per month.
